AV-Test provides us with up-to-date and recent information. Every month, we get updates for different platforms from this company based in Magdeburg, Germany. They have been dedicated to this for over 15 years, although they still face scrutiny from users and manufacturers (as in any other field). Nevertheless, their tests are thorough, using a methodology that is hard to fault.
AV-Test has test labs equipped with more than 200 identical workstations and over 200 servers with a capacity of more than 2,500 terabytes to process and store one of the largest malware databases in the world. For Windows, the subject of our discussion now, antivirus programs are subjected to various tests:

AV-Test awards the “Top Product” rating to the best products analyzed on that occasion, but this does not imply that all have 6 points in the 3 categories. For Windows, the products that achieve the TOP Product award are those with a total score of 17.5 points or higher, with the maximum being 18 points. Each category has six points, and the publication of the analyses is bimonthly, although the testing frequency is monthly. To earn the AV-TEST seal (not top, but the seal that makes them reliable), a minimum of ten points in total is required in Windows.
The situation changes in other operating systems, because in the case of macOS, the testing frequency is semi-annual and so is the publication, although the categories remain the same and so do the minimum points required for the seal.
In Android, the publication is bimonthly, and the testing frequency is also bimonthly. The maximum of six points per category is maintained, the seal is awarded with a minimum of ten points, and the total maximum score obtained is 18 points.
